Kalagni Rudramuni Maha Swamiji
Remembered particularly for establishing and expanding the educational initiative that became Sri Shivayogi Munishwara Swamy Vidyapeetha.
For around six centuries, Sri Kshetra Maralegavi Mutt has carried a Veerashaiva spiritual tradition forward through Guru Parampara, learning, service and community.
Sri Kshetra Maralegavi Mutt is described by its institutional history as one of the ancient Veerashaiva Mutts of southern Karnataka. Its origin is associated with Sri Thontada Siddalingeshwara Swamiji, whose spiritual journey at this place became the beginning of a continuing tradition.
The published history records that Sri Siddalingeshwara Swamiji undertook 48 days of deep penance here and, following a divine experience of Lord Shiva, began preaching the practices and teachings of Veerashaiva Dharma on the banks of the Arkavathi, amid forest and hills.
The historical account says Sri Siddalingeshwara Swamiji meditated with 600 disciples in a cave, from which the name Sri Marale Gavi Mutt became associated with the place.
At the request of local inhabitants, Sri Siddalingeshwara established an Ashram under the management of his disciple, Sri Shivayogi Munishwara Swamiji. From there, the Mutt developed through successive Parampara Swamijis.
The strength of a tradition lies in its continuity — each generation receiving, preserving and extending what came before.

Deep penance at Maralegavi and the beginning of a teaching tradition rooted in Veerashaiva Dharma.
The Ashram takes institutional form under the disciple entrusted with its management.
Successive Gurus preserve the spiritual lineage while responding to the needs of their time.
The Vidyapeetha grows from Sanskrit lessons for six students into a wider educational mission.
The 17th Guru carries the tradition into education, health, environment, social outreach and community life.
The history of Maralegavi is not confined to the past. Its values become visible wherever knowledge, nourishment, stewardship and service are put into practice.

Enlightenment through spiritual thinking.
Knowledge through literacy and structured learning.
Across generations, the Mutt's story has moved from spiritual thought into learning, service and the care of community. The continuity is the history.
Today, that inheritance remains visible in the living Guru Parampara and in the work carried out through education, health, environmental stewardship and social outreach.
